ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Ian Futers has been well known as a modeller and small layout builder for over 35 years and has published many articles about his interests in the UK modelling press. He was born on Tyneside and lived there until the 1980s. His interest in railways commenced during his early teens, and, living on Tyneside introduced him to the ex-North British Railway routes in Northumberland. Later on he became interested in the West Highland Railway and he has followed these two areas of railway interest to the present day. He commenced modelling in 00 scale and progressed to EM Gauge and then to P4. He now models in 7mm finescale, although has been known to work in ScaleSeven. Most of his layouts have been quite small, sometimes featuring actual locations, although he will usually construct a 'just supposing' location. His attention to detail covers all aspects of the hobby; trackwork, scenery, buildings and rolling stock. He is a regular exhibitor at Model Railway Shows across the UK.
